Activities

In addition to the courses of Spanish for speakers of other languages, the university organizes other free extracurricular activities to promote student integration and cultural exchange:

Linguistic Support Service (SAPLI)

This is a language support service designed and directed by students from the University itself and aimed at solving any problems arising from lack of knowledge of the language. The objective is to facilitate the integration of students, foster productive relationships between students with different linguistic profiles, and carry out recreational activities to get to know the university, the city of Santander, and Spanish culture. SAPLI organizes various activities for students of Spanish throughout the year, aimed at practicing the language and integrating them into the student community. A noteworthy example among them is the weekly organization of tandems for language exchange.

Cultural activities

The center’s proposal of cultural activities for its students also includes:
  • Film sessions, exhibitions, seminars as a complement to Spanish language classes
  • Participation in the university’s Theater Group

Sports activities

The University offers students a wide range of opportunities to practice sports and language skills with Spanish-speaking students in a totally different context outside the classroom through the Physical Activity and Sports Service (SAFD).
  • Sports practices and group training twice a week in indoor soccer, volleyball, and basketball.
  • Sports activities in nature. Hiking groups are organized and mountain routes are scheduled throughout the academic year. In addition, a surfing baptism is also offered.
  • Internal sports competitions. Students who wish to compete, in addition to practicing a sport, can do so through the different internal tournaments proposed by the center: basketball, paddle tennis, beach volleyball, or indoor soccer.

University Day

This is one of the most important events in the academic calendar. International students, together with professors and students, participate in sports (soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball), cultural, and gastronomic activities. One activity which is especially well-received is the gastronomic proposal where international students show the rest of the university community the main dishes of their respective countries.
